About Enloe Surgical and Procedural Assessment Area: ESPAA (pronounced e-spa) is designed to ensure the best possible surgical experience for Enloe’s patients. It’s made up of a team of registered nurses who meet with patients to provide pre-operative education, assessment and testing. ESPAA coordinates with Northstate Anesthesiology Partners, the group of physicians who provide anesthesiology services at Enloe Medical Center. Benefits of the service include: Patients receive education about their upcoming surgery; the ESPAA staff gathers patients’ medical history and provides any needed exams, sharing results with the patients’ surgeon and anesthesiologist; the staff also checks for and follow up on issues that could create a delay in patients’ surgery, and it provides patients with instructions for the day of surgery, including how to prepare, what medications to take, where to go and the arrival time. For more on ESPAA, visit www.enloe.org/espaa.
