Recalled: Children's InStep, Schwinn, and Mongoose trailer bikes

Tue, Jan 8, 2008 (BabyCenter News) — Pacific Cycle has announced a recall of about 7,000 children's trailer bicycles in cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

The coupler that connects the child's trailer bike to the adult's bicycle may detach, posing a fall hazard to children. Pacific Cycle has received one report of the coupler failing, resulting in a fall and injuries to the rider.

The children's bicycles are single-wheeled and connect to the adult's bicycle by a coupler. Only bicycles with couplers that have welded plates are involved in this recall. Bicycles that have couplers with cast parts are not being recalled. The recall includes the following bicycles: InStep "Pathfinder," model PF250; Schwinn "Run About," models 13-SC250 and 13-SC350; and Mongoose "Alley Cat," model M5101. The model numbers are located on the lower seat tube of the frame.

The trailer bicycles were sold at bicycle stores and retailers nationwide from January 2007 through August 2007 for between $80 and $120 They were made in China.
