Enloe’s Junior Volunteer program accepting applications

Chico, Calif., March 10, 2007 – Enloe Medical Center's Junior Volunteer program is currently accepting applications from high school students from age 15 through 18 for the 2008 to 2009 service year, which runs from June 2007 to June 2008. The program will accept up to 30 students.

Applications are available at the Enloe Volunteer Services office located at 249 West 6th Avenue or by calling 332-4575. Applications are due by March 14 at 4 p.m. in the Enloe Volunteer Services office. Interviews for the Junior Volunteer program will take place April and the 2008-09 Junior Volunteers will be announced on May 9, 2008 . Any questions about the program may be directed to the Enloe Volunteer Services office at 332-4575.

Volunteers must be available to attend mandatory orientation on Friday, June 13. Training for new volunteers occurs over the summer, so potential volunteers must be available on at least 40 days to become acquainted with all service duties and responsibilities.

During the school year, the Junior Volunteers' scheduled weekly shifts are on weekday evenings and weekend days. They will also attend three training days throughout the year. Volunteers will be able to apply for one of the three $1,000 Enloe Foundation scholarships that are given each year to graduating seniors.

Rachael Kuintzle, recent Junior Volunteer shares: "It's a feel-good experience of course, but ultimately I've learned a lot about the medical profession. This has placed me in a position to meet physicians and learn medical terminology and to learn about some procedures through observation. It has also taught me the proper way to interact with patients and visitors. I could never take an opportunity like this for granted because I know that not everyone else is as fortunate as I am."
